How to Choose an Effective Mold Killer

Molds are potentially dangerous to health. They produce allergens that can cause a person who is highly sensitive to it to manifest different signs and symptoms associated with allergies. These can range from sneezing, irritated eyes, cough and even develop into a full-blown asthma attack. Some molds produce toxins, particularly mycotoxins which can cause damage to the cells leading to health problems. Molds are associated with respiratory problems because mold spores are easily inhaled. In fact, health experts blame molds as the cause of the 37 million chronic cases of sinusitis in the United States. The negative effects of molds on health are not limited to respiratory problems. One can develop persistent headaches and skin irritation when constantly exposed to it. Though molds are everywhere, having it in the home is a health risk. Mold removal, therefore, is necessary. There are options when it comes to choosing a mold killer. You can opt to use natural mold killers. Mold sprays and mold cleaners can also be purchased from local suppliers such as Home Depot.

Natural mold killers include white vinegar, tea tree oil and grapefruit seed extracts. Vinegar as a natural mold killer can eliminate 82% of all mold species. Put the vinegar into a spray bottle undiluted and spray it on the moldy area. Let it stay for hour before wiping it clean with water and letting it dry. Tea tree oil is very effective although it can be a bit expensive. Tea tree oil is effective for all kinds of molds. Dilute one teaspoon of tea tree oil to a cup of water and put the solution in a spray bottle. Spray on the moldy surface and just leave it on. There is no need to wipe it clean and the solution will help prevent molds from growing back. Grapefruit seed extract, aside from having the ability to get rid of all types of molds, is also a natural deodorizer. Like tea tree oil, it can be costly. To eliminate molds, pour ten drops of grapefruit seed extract to one cup of water and put it in a spray bottle. Spray on the molds and leave it on just like with the tea tree solution.

If you have a particular problem with black mold or a large area that is heavily infested with molds, ozone mold killer is another option. It is effective for other types of molds as well and it also ensures that odors caused by molds are likewise eliminated. To kill molds, it is necessary to blast an unoccupied room with large amounts of ozone. This is called "high ozone shock treatments". After the treatment, as much as possible, remove all traces of humidity and moisture from the room. Try to make the area as dry as possible. Clean all visible mold and mildew with a solution made of bleach and water. Protect yourself by wearing a respiratory mask and gloves. The amount of ozone needed depends on the size of the room and the extent of the infestation. It is recommended that at least an adequate amount of ozone be used for the size of the room and the extent of mold growth.

Molds are found everywhere but often, we don't realize the damage they cause to our health. Preventing them from infesting our homes is much more sensible, but oftentimes, we find that they have already occupied a considerable amount of space. This problem can be solved by natural mold killers, by using mold sprays or ozone mold killer. Getting rid of molds as early as possible will save you the health problems that they inevitably cause.
