Blue Air Filters - 2 Important Things You Should Know

The blue air filters are not "true HEPA filters" and so their filters do not trap as much smaller particles as the true air filter will. The blue air purifiers uses other means to trap these smaller particles, but do they mach up the the leading bands or HEPA?

HEPA strands for high efficiency particulate air and is the range of filters that can trap and contain up to 99.9% of the indoor air borne particles. The best of the HEPA will be able to stop minute particles up to 0.3 microns small. This is important because for an allergy sufferer you want to make sure that your air in your home is as clean and free from concentrate as humanly possible.

1. The blue air filters are not true HEPA filters.
The blue air purifiers uses a combination of air filters and internal electrostatic ionizers. Even though the air filter will allow smaller particles through, these particles are charged with a negative ion to trap them and prevent them from re-entering the air. This is great because even though they do not use HEPA filters, they sill manage to trap the same amount and size of particles in the air.

The negative side (no pun intended) is that negatively charged ions are created and this can get back out in the air. Negativity charged ions are not safe to breath in and especially risky for asthmatics and others suffering from upper respiratory disorders. Blue air purifiers compensate for this by using carbon to remove the negative ions. But I am not sure how much is allowed to pass back into the air.

Blue air purifiers are much more quiet as a result of the techniques they use and the filter technology they employ in there units. As a allergy sufferer I prefer not to take that chance.

2. The blue air filters and purifiers are a lot more expensive than other air purifiers in it's class. This will make this unit out of the reach for most people. But the good news is that you can get a unit that is comparable to the blue that won't cost you a fortune. These units all use true HEPA filters and won't negatively charge the ions in the air.
