Allergies and Some Interesting Facts

Allergies are very common disorder that strikes any person. Your body reacts to an outside substance, which it notes as a threat to its well-being. The immune system over reacts to a particular substance and as the body reacts the person suffers from this reaction. Everyone can have allergies because the body is always going to interpret the unknown allergens such as weeds, grass, pollen and even food as it invades into its system.

There are more than 50 Americans who suffer from allergies and the most common is asthma. Asthma is a chronic inflammation of the lungs in which the airways are reversibly narrowed. It causes 4,000 deaths yearly in the United States. Inhalers are the best treatment for asthmas. Asthma attacks can be prevented by avoiding triggering factors such as allergens or rapid temperature changes.

5.5% of the US population dies annually because of insect stings. The most common insects that stings are wasps, bees and hornets. The result of an allergic reaction to wasp venom is called anaphylaxis. Venom immunotherapy can prevent systemic reactions to stings in people. You can use creams and home remedies for treatment. But for complete safety, seek for medical advice. Insect stings should be taken seriously because they can be severe and could even cause potential death.

Some individuals who get allergic symptoms during the winter are usually allergic to mold spores. Molds are fungi that are present in most places, outdoors and indoors. They live everywhere and disturbing a mold source can disperse the spores into the air. Once you inhale the spores, it causes allergic reaction to most people. Many molds grow on rotting logs and fallen leaves they can be found on grasses and grains. Unlike pollens, molds do not die with the first killing frost. Most outdoor molds become inactive during the winter. In the spring they grow on plants and killed by the cold.

In the US, allergies are the 6th leading cause of chronic diseases that are recurrent. It is estimated that more than 150 people die every year from a severe allergic reaction. Chronic sinusitis is one common disease that most Americans are suffering from. It is the inflammation and swollen of the cavities around nasal passages that interferes with the drainage and causes mucus to build up. If you have this disease, it may be difficult for you to breathe through your nose. It may be caused by an infection but can also be caused by growths in the sinuses or a deviated nasal septum.
