What is Mold Allergy?


They grow on fallen leaves, grasses and grains. Mold grows and form spores which is airborne which could spread by wind outdoor and by air indoors and just like pollen it can cause allergic disease to some people. It occurs most common from July to summer and if the fungi growing happen a lot in a place, it could occur all year long.

There are many types of mold and there a few dozen such as Alter aria (outdoor mold which can cause asthma), Aspergilus, Helmin thosporium (commonly found in warmer areas), Epicoccum (found in agricultural areas), Fusarium (found in rotting plants), Mucor, Rhizopus (found in decaying leaves and damp areas) which cause allergic reactions. Those who have family members who are also allergic to pollen have higher risk in getting mold allergy.

Those who are allergic to mold are also prone to have problems with dust mites and other kind of spores. People who are farmers, loggers, bakers, carpenters, wine makers have greater risk and exposure to mold and developing such allergies. There are several symptoms in getting mold allergy which are also similar to the symptoms of kinds of allergies such as sneezing, itching, nasal congestion, and dry skin. It can also lead to hay fever and cause asthma or other serious illness.

If you have mold allergy, you should avoid contact with spores. It is advisable to wear a dust mask when you're cleaning your garden. If you are staying indoors a lot, make sure it is dry and not humid to prevent fungi from growing. Take antihistamines and other kind of suitable medications for nasal or other allergic symptoms but remember to seek consultation from your physician. Antihistamines may cause drowsiness so take it when you are about to sleep.

There are several ways to prevent mold to grow inside your house. Open window in the bathroom and repair leaking pipes. Clean garbage pail and refrigerator frequently. You might also want to use electric dehumidifier to remove moisture from your rooms and basement.
